Major ECHO Transparency Features Released or Updated

We’ve enhanced transparency and accessibility with the following new tools and updates:

  • PFAS Analytic Tools: Tools for analyzing PFAS data.
  • ECHO Clean Air Tracking Tool (ECATT): Public access to clean air tracking tools.
  • Benzene Fenceline Monitoring Dashboard: Detailed benzene monitoring information.
  • NPDES Noncompliance Reports (NNCR): The quarterly National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Noncompliance Report (NNCR) displays quarterly reports listing facility-level violations and relevant environmental conditions.
  • Environmental Justice Supplemental Indexes: Additional indexes in Detailed Facility Reports to support environmental justice. 
  • Climate Change Map Layers: New map layers added to Facility Search Results focusing on climate change data.

ECHO Usage Highlights

ECHO usage has steadily increased.

  • Pageviews: Increased by 4% over FY2022.
  • Web services: Popular with Developers, recording 16.7 million hits
  • ECHO Data Visualization Gallery: 50,000 visits, with 30,000 specifically for PFAS Analytic Tools.
  • Popular Features: Increased pageviews for most features from FY2022. Top 5 features are:
    1. Detailed Facility Report
    2. Facility Search Results
    3. Facility Search
    4. Enforcement Case Search
    5. Report Environmental Violations

Looking Ahead to ECHO’s FY24 Releases

We plan to further enhance ECHO with the following:

  • Methane Super-Emitters Build Out: Enhanced tracking, reporting, and data visualization.
  • Clean Air Act Data Access Improvements: Better access to clean air data.
  • Remote Sensing Capabilities: Improved remote sensing for methane and other substances.
  • New Transparency Projects: Ongoing efforts to launch new transparency projects.
  • Water Quality Indicators Tool: Visualize water monitoring data and facility data.
  • NPDES eRule Phase 2: Data supporting sewer spills/overflows.
  • Pipeline View of Reports: New view showing the linear relationships from inspection to enforcement.
  • Drinking Water Service Areas: More easily identify the communities impacted by SDWA violations.
